Based in Great Falls, Montana, Stephanie Erdmann is a self-taught watercolor artist known for capturing the softer, more reflective side nature. Her work often portrays the sport of flyfishing, and the quiet inspiration found along rivers. Drawing from her outdoor adventures—fishing and exploring—she uses layered, transparent washes to convey the vibrancy, emotion, and connection she experiences in the natural world.

Stephanie was exposed to watercolor early on through her mother, a secondary art teacher, laying the foundation for her later exploration of the medium. Since then, she has developed her craft through curiosity, experimentation, and dedicated practice. Her style is defined by translucent layering, thoughtful detail, and rich, luminous color.

Her work has been featured in numerous juried exhibitions, including the Montana Watercolor Society National Juried Art Show in Bozeman, the Best of the West Art Show during Western Art Week in Great Falls, and the Montana Watercolor Society’s 2025 Members Only Show, where she received first place. She has also exhibited in the Spotlight on The Square exhibition at the Paris Gibson Square Museum of Art and in regional galleries throughout Great Falls.

Stephanie is an active member of the Montana Watercolor Society and the Art Association of Montana, serves on the board of the Paris Gibson Square Museum of Art, and is a former member of the Duluth Art Institute.

Her portfolio includes a wide variety of trout species, wildlife scenes, vibrant florals, some landscapes, and cherished pet portraits, each infused with emotional depth and a strong sense of place. Her paintings can be found in homes across Montana and Wisconsin, where they bring joy and personal meaning to collectors.

Stephanie’s mission as a watercolorist is to share the splendor and wonder she experiences outdoors. Through careful application and layering of color, she strives to emotionally connect viewers with her subjects, translating fleeting natural moments into lasting visual stories.
